SLIPKNOT - SLIPKNOT
My first thoughts when I listened to Slipknot for the very first time mostly negative...let's face it, it isn't really GOOD music we're talking about here...it's very angry, very full of rage, very rough-around-the-edges, and most of it is unintelligable. Yet despite all these things, I've come to like it.I'd have to say Slipknot is an acquired taste. I hated 'em the first time I heard their music, then after awhile, I started to actually enjoy the twisted cuts they'd brought into this world. Nearly every song is fast paced, full of mad lyrics, and catchy beats. Course, some of it is shit shitty shit, but that's the case with nearly every overpriced piece of music sold in stores today.
The 8 members of Slipknot, in their blue-collar work overalls and masks suitable for B-Movie horror, have made quite a name for themselves. Just the shock value alone has probably made you stand up and take notice, and if you haven't heard of Slipknot somewhere along the line, you're the minority. It's sorta like Marilyn Manson - funny....like a clown. Well, maybe the clown from Stephen King's 'It' might be more accurate. That pretty much describes Slipknot, although their musical efforts aren't nearly as, shall I say, interesting as the forementioned Mr. Manson. But then there's the old saying - quantity over quality (or is it the other way around?), and one thing Slipknot has going for it is the sheer amount of band members. There's something like three people playing guitars, one bass, 2 DJs, one guy that collects samples, and the vocals. Corey, the lead singer, is full of rage...probably the most noteworthy feature of Slipknot are the slurred lyrics, and the intros to the various tracks - alot of 'em are pretty cool.
Alright, Slipknot is NOT for everybody...but at least give 'em a listen, and see what you think.
