DISTURBED - THE SICKNESS
When I was first getting interested in metal, one of my first CD purchases was Disturbed's The Sickness - I'd heard their first single Stupify, and I was convinced that I wouldn't regret shelving out the paper to buy the illness they had created. And I don't regret it. It's hard, heavy music, and pretty good if you like this kind of thing. Sure, it isn't what you might call truly original, and many of the songs sound similar, but not all music has to reinvent the wheel. The anger-filled vocals of David Draiman, combined with the talent of the bass player Fuzz, and some other guy with a goatee, and finally the technilogical aspect of another guy with a massive chin-beard (not to mention drums), and there you have it - Disturbed...
One thing I noticed was that none of the songs are truly disturbed...just more angst and anger from a tortured soul who experienced it all before (Pass the KoRn), but it's done well. There is one song that kinda shocked me, and that's Down with the Sickness; there's a part near the end where David goes into a kind of rant and starts babbling about personal child abuse, where the child finally snaps.
Much of this CD is well worth the listen. If you find it on sale, or you have money to burn, you should consider picking up this somewhat disturbing collection.
